Visitors, volunteers and Lake District Osprey Project staff were 'amazed' this afternoon between 2.45 pm and 3.15pm; The cause of their amazement was that they could not see a single Osprey from the upper viewpoint at Dodd Wood. For thirty minutes all that was seen  was a wing or a tail or a head, amazing!!!!

Amazing because during the rest of the day we had a glut* of Ospreys. The adult female is now spending a lot of her time sitting on the teddy bears right ear overlooking the nest, the two young females, having fledged are keeping close to the nest waiting for Dad to bring in a nice fish. The adult male doesn’t let his family down he caught three fish one after another this afternoon and brought two and a half of them onto the nest. This probably explains the quiet spell, nothing like a nap after a good lunch, Dad in a tree out of sight, mum and the kids low in the nest, also out of sight.

If you want to see an Osprey, or two, or three or four or five come along to Dodd Wood or Whinlatter Forest Park and you have a very good chance of seeing  one, or two, or three, or four, or five. Amazing!

If you know the collective noun for Ospreys do send us an email, it must be better than ‘glut’.
