Nature detective: Loner, padded jacket, binoculars, floppy hat adorned with RSPB bird pins, walking boots. Does that sound like you? Maybe or maybe not. All of us with enquiring minds, good observation skills and the ability to put 2 and 2 together can be nature sleuths. Add a bit of retrospective knowledge, make sure that you aren’t imagining too much, verify behavioural changes with other people and you can solve these observations from the View Point.

On Saturday Mrs. did not go through her usual routine of bathing, preening and letting No-ring do a share of the incubation. Instead she sat solidly, only leaving the nest for a few tight flights and the necessary comfort drops.

On Sunday the birds could be seen pecking with double dipping motions at their fish, bending towards the centre of the nest.

On Monday at 11.00 No-ring suddenly went overboard fishing in the shallow water in front of the Lower view point and caught 4 fish in under an hour – one within 5 minutes of the next!

You’re the nature detective – so put the clues all together and what have you got?
