Please accept our apologies for the lack of updates.

The aim of the Lake District Osprey Project is to update the diary daily. Unfortunately over the last week a combination of staff holiday and staff sickness have left the project short of staff time and staff who know how to access and update the diary. We are hoping to train more staff on how to add entries but with the birds changing next sites this has caused us significant extra work which has delayed other work.

Back to the important news. The Ospreys are well, both male and female are active, fishing and sitting in their favourite trees. They also seem to be sharing amicably the role of sitting on eggs. Both can be seen at regular intervals throughout the day from the new viewpoint on Dodd. We believe the female has laid 3 eggs but without nest cameras we cannot be certain. Certainly their behaviour indicates that they have eggs, how many is currently their secret.

The new viewpoint is staffed from 10.30am until 4.30pm. Staff at the old viewpoint will point the way for you. It is a 10 to 15 minute wall up the forest road, but the view are well worth it.

We hope to return to daily updates by the middle of this week.

On a connected subject we are still working on getting images from the new nest to Whinlatter and the internet. We are currently waiting for a new camera to be delivered. The new camera has been purpose built to give the best resolution and zoom from the new camera position to the nest. Once we have this we are feel confident we will be able to send images from the new nest.

Thank you for your patience
