Here I am, sitting on this post, two o’clock on a Friday afternoon. I ask you what is this world coming to? There I was just having a paddle at the side of the lake, you know it gets all those fishy bits from between the toes, when whoosh..........a darn great crow drops out of nowhere and nearly parts the old hair style; talk about being confused with a fish eagle, nearly became a bald eagle! Do you know what, the blighter did it again, said something about being ‘his private beach’, in your dreams mate! Anyway I decided I couldn’t put up with this hassle, get enough of that back on the nest at the moment, so just to show that crow who’s boss, I did a nice sedate circuit of the lake and then thought I’ll have a bit of a sit. So here I am. I like this post, you get a nice view along about fifty yards of water, cigar shaped it is, with me at one end. I caught a nice young juicy pike in here not so long ago. Anyhow I like the view and I like to listen. Over to my left are some of them lamb things leaping about, anybody would think its spring? Behind them are some reed beds, is that an Otter I can hear creeping about? I nearly caught one of those once, frightened the life out of me! Didn’t look very tasty. Maybe it’s only a duck. On the right there’s a nice marshy area; I like the marsh especially when it’s just covered in water. I like my fish not to be able to escape downwards. At the moment being a bit drier a family of Swans are gadding about, I heard something about having four cygnets. Got to watch out for mum and dad at the moment they can do you serious damage if you get too close to their darlings. Talking of which I ran into that Oystercatcher the other day, he’s another one. Just taking a quick look at the young, not even my taste and there he was after me like a rocket. Now you could say Osprey, six times bigger than an Oystercatcher what have you to be scared of? Well, all I can say is you try a long, red pointy thing up under your tail feathers. I bet you would move a bit quick! Any way now you know why I’m sitting here all quiet like letting the world pass by. There is one thing that puzzles me a bit and it’s just over there to my right. Half way up the hillside there are some strange two legged creatures with funny glassy tubes that they keep pointing in this direction. I bet they think that I can’t see them, little do they know. I’ll tell you what I might go and give them a bit of a display on what fishing is all about........or I might just go and give that crow the fright of his life by taking an interest in his nest. Decisions, decisions, I’ll just stay here a few more minutes and think about it.
