Now you see it, now you don’t.. A couple of days ago, after blistering effort by Radio Branch George, the webcam and Visitor Centre enjoyed a brief view of the nest. Then, overnight something slipped and no one was quite sure what the camera was framing, although it was obviously abstract rather than landscape. We were pretty sure it hadn’t been sat upon by Mrs. No-ring, despite suggestions of sabotage on her part, and the pattern was not caused by poop, as in previous years. So, today George had to return from his Scottish base and sort it all out again. This involved hanging from branches whilst tinkering with complicated parts, not making any loud bird disturbing comments when things didn’t go right, and then, after it was fixed, taking it all down and putting it up in a different place because pernickety Staff at the VC wanted to see ‘more background’. Thank you!

It was worth it because the result is that on the Big Screen at Whinlatter, we can now see the ospreys like Angels coming into the nest from all angles. Wow!

Furthermore, if the webcam doesn’t catch the split second timing we’ve now got the Toons’ magnificent pictures of No-ring as well to savour.
