Over the weekend and Beyond the Call of Duty Osprey Project Volunteers have been turning up in Blizzard Conditions as have some Intrepid Visitors. At times even Spotting the Feeders has been a Challenge!

An icy start to the morning. Like the previous days' snow migratory birds are coming in in flurries. At Dodd the first 5 Siskins were seen upon the feeders and a chiff chaff has been chirping his heart out in the car park. Flocks of sandmartins have been patrolling the river mouth although, as the water is high at the moment, they will be finding their summer holiday holes in the bank a bit damp. At 11.00 an osprey flew overhead so close the watchers almost missed it! It flew strongly North up the Lake where the River Derwent flows out. Half an hour later a keen eyed Volunteer in Great Broughton phoned in saying he had seen an osprey following the Derwent westwards. This was surely the same bird taking advantage of a potential fishing source on its way North.
